If you answer yes to any of the below questions, it is time to make an appointment to visit your denturist. Normally, dentures will last somewhere between five and 10 years. However, it is important to visit with your denturist regularly to check the fit and function of your dentures:

  • Am I having difficulty chewing food?
  • Am I having difficulty speaking?
  • Am I always biting the side of my mouth or cheek?
  • Did my mouth and/or gums have become red or inflamed?
  • Do I experience continued discomfort wearing my dentures?
  • Are my dentures cracked or chipped?
  • Do I have my dentures for over five years?

Remember that not all dentures are made the same way or with the same types of materials. The most life-like options are dentures made with materials from Ivoclar Vivadent which are available at Smile Denture Care in Mississauga. Are dentures affecting your smile?

Smile Care Denture Centre Team

Smile Care Denture Centre Team

What is the first thing that people notice about you? Is it your physical stature, your eyes, hair, or what you are wearing? According to the most recent surveys, your smile is the first physical feature that gets noticed.

Many denture wearers are affected by the physiological changes due to shrinking of the gums. Once the natural teeth are lost, the gums shrink inwards, leaving the face not supported. Premature signs of aging become more evident: folds of tissue and sunken in corners of the mouth, jowls hanging down below the jawline.

Traditional dentures are not designed to produce the necessary facial support or a natural smile. As such, most denture wearers have re-trained themselves to smile or avoid smiling altogether.

Now there is a solution to recreate your smile and produce a face lift effect to bring your smile back to life.

At Smile Care Denture Centre we create precision dentures that help to restore your facial proportions, eliminate prominent signs of aging and help patients gain their confidence back. How do we do it?

The answer is simple: by providing direct denture service to the patient and using latest technology available in denture fabrication. Complete customization of your dentures is ensured by choosing the right shape and color of the teeth, as well as a set up that matches your smile.

With a fully equipped denture lab, our denturist is able to address your needs and expectations to get the right fit and function for your dentures.

April is National Oral Health Month

April is officially the National Oral Health Month and it’s a great time to highlight the importance of good oral health and its role in maintaining one’s overall health and well-being. Oral health is more than maintaining healthy teeth and gums. It involves the health of the whole area of the mouth and face. Although the mouth is part of our body, we often think of it as something separate and often tend to ignore red flags such as bleeding or tender gums, while an irritation or pain elsewhere in the body would mean a trip to the doctor.

Poor oral health can affect a person’s quality of life. Oral pain, missing teeth or oral infections can influence the way a person speaks, eats and socializes. These oral health problems can reduce a person’s quality of life by affecting their physical, mental and social well-being ,which is why it is so important to visit your dentist and denturist regularly.  Oral health can affect one’s social, physical, and mental well-being, and it may be linked to more serious health issues such as diabetes, heart disease, or even oral cancer.

As a result, good oral hygiene, including brushing and flossing your teeth daily and seeing your dentist and denturist regularly, may not only keep your mouth healthy, it may also play a role in your overall health and well-being.

Only your oral health professional has the training, skills, and expertise to take care of all your oral health and denture needs. Don’t wait for a toothache or a denture emergency to look for a dental health specialist. Ask for recommendations from friends, family, neighbours, or co-workers. If you’re moving, ask if your current dentist or denturist can refer you to a dentist or denturist in your new area.

5 Tips to Eliminate Denture Discomfort

Many people endure denture-related problems on a daily basis when most discomforts can easily be avoided by following a few simple rules.

Here are a few tips by Andriy Khomyn RDT DD, a the Mississauga Denturist that will help you avoid most denture-related pain or discomfort:

1 . Make sure that your dentures fit properly. Over time, gums and bones have a tendency to change, making your dentures feel too big or too loose.

2. Keep them clean. It is very important you rince and clean your dentures at least twice daily

3 . Change your dentures every 4-5 years. People who wear the same dentures for over 7-8 years, tend to have more mouth infections that include inflammations and burning corners of the mouth, red small bumps on the roof of your mouth, redness and itchiness on the gums, localized or general swelling.

4 .  Get your dentures and gums checked annually. This will ensure that your dentures fit right and prevent denture-related problems in the future.

5 .  Use an adhesive. Denture adhesives help your dentures stay in place and make them more secure. Avoid using denture adhesives to fix old or poorly fitted dentures. When using an adhesive, use only a small amount and follow the instructions carefully.

If you have problems with your dentures, see your dentist right away. Your dentures may need to be adjusted or replaced. A denturist is a highly trained dental professional that has in-depth knowledge and expertise in fabricating, fitting, adjusting partial and complete removable dentures.

Combining  both the clinical with the technical aspect of creating a denture, your denturist is a designer and an architect in building your denture. A denturist will take care of every aspect of denture fabrication, from the impression to the finished product.
